A FIRE inside a bar was sparked when a 'flares set fire to Christmas decorations after the New Year countdown.
The champagne sparklers ignited helium balloons attached to the basement venue's roof, sources have claimed.
Witness have told of the terrifying moment the blaze broke out just minutes after midnight at One Eight Six bar on Deansgate.
Around 170 revellers were evacuated and two men taken to hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.
One witness told the Manchester Evening News: “There were hundreds of balloons decorating the venue's ceiling.
At midnight the staff brought out sparklers and handed them to people.
“They were everywhere.
