A dramatic protest by the students of Jawahar Lal Nehru University (JNU) broke out on Monday outside the campus over several issues including hostel fee hike, dress code and timing.
During the protest, a scuffle broke out between the police and the protesting students as they moved towards the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), where Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu and Union Human Resource minister Ramesh Pokhrial Nishank were attending the university’s convocation at an auditorium.
Naidu, however, left the venue soon after convocation got over but Nishank was trapped inside for more than six hours.
The students’ union has been on a strike against the draft hostel manual, which was approved by the inter-hall administration. Agitating students said the strike would not end until the hostel manual is withdrawn.
