MAX Verstappen accused Lewis Hamilton of reckless driving as the two squabbling drivers clashed again in qualifying for the US Grand Prix.
While Valtteri Bottas took an unexpected pole position, Hamilton was only fifth quickest on the Circuit of the Americas track on which he has won a record five times.
His long-awaited sixth title should still be wrapped up on Sunday because even if Bottas converts his advantage into victory, the Briton still only needs to finish eighth to be certain of finishing the season as champion once more.
But the big flare up of the day came during the second qualifying session when Hamilton and Verstappen became entangled at Turn 19.
Hamilton was trying to find a way past the Toro Rosso of Daniil Kvyat and in doing so pushed Verstappen to the edge oft he track. The Dutchman ran on to the grass to escape a collision.
