THE newly-inducted Apache helicopters will soon be part of war games and military exercises to keep them battle-ready for any threat.
The multi-role helicopters, dubbed ‘flying tanks’, are a potent acquisition as they can operate in mountainous terrains and are armed with antitank missiles.
While the first batch comprising eight helicopters has been inducted, the Indian Air Force (IAF) will have 22 such helicopters by 2020.
The helicopters will be split in two squadrons. One of them will be based in Pathankot, Punjab, to combat threats from Pakistan. It will also help forces maintain strict vigilance in Jorhat, Assam with focus on potential Chinese threats.
