The whole world is in a state of public health emergency from the outbreak of a novel coronavirus disease, COVID19. Whether you’re at home working, or in the hospital for quarantine, reading the news about the outbreak can be stressful. Anxiety and fear about a disease can cause people to mentally shift from a worried to emotionally overwhelmed state.
In a study by the American Heart Association (AHA), data shows that anxiety and stress are moderately high in Filipinos. Although depression rates are fairly low, younger Filipinos suffer more from anxiety and stress, according to a nursing research and clinical study. In some way, this study is related to mental health with physical wellbeing, as stressful events can lead to panic symptoms.
While everyone reacts differently to stressful situations, we can take care of ourselves (and others) by coping as educated and well-informed individuals. One thing, for sure, is you have to take a break, breathe, and take things one step at a time.
