20 SPIES FEAR COVER BLOWN

TOP spooks fear up to 20 MI6 officers working in Germany may have had their cover blown.

An urgent review is under way after the arrest of British embassy guard David Smith on espionage charges.

Spymasters at Vauxhall Cross HQ in London need to know just how much damage has been allegedly done by stocky, balding Smith, 57.

If it is too great, they may have to dismantle and rebuild MI6’s Berlin station. An ex-spook said: “Smith was an ears and eyes informant. Us spies can’t get enough of them.”

Smith would have known all the MI6 staffers in the Berlin embassy, their mobile phone numbers and be able to pick up gossip about their lives.
