PLYMOTHIANS have been left fearing if they can afford to both eat and heat this winter as energy bills soar. The average annual bill was forecast to rise to almost £4,000, which is more than three times what Britons were paying just 12 months ago.
Many people in the city said they were being more cautious about energy usage and said they would struggle this winter. Even students have been left worried as the cost of living is set to limit any funds they have for a social life.
Soaring household energy bills though are expected to be cut by energy companies using government-backed loans. Prime Minister Liz Truss has pledged to "deliver on the energy crisis" - with a price freeze widely expected.
Energy bills are rocketing and the cap on prices will go up on October 1st. However, the government is expected to announce today it will step in before that rise. It is being reported there will be a freeze on household energy bills at around £2,500. It will be the £1,971 energy price cap + the £400 universal handout, with a little on top.
