At least 13 patients, including those who were suspected to have been Covid positive, died allegedly due to shortage of oxygen supply at Government Chengalpattu Medical College Hospital around Tuesday midnight.
However, the district collector denied the allegations and claimed that the patients died due to various causes. But the officials accepted that there was a slight dip in the liquid oxygen pressure tanker on Tuesday at around 10.30 pm. Following this, the issue was immediately identified and attended. The drop was due to low level of oxygen in the tanker. Among the deceased were new mothers. The deceased were in the age group of 40 to 85.
Speaking to the press, Chengalpattu collector A John Louis said, there were some technical glitches in the oxygen supply, which were attended at the earliest and there was no question of shortage of oxygen supply.
