ICMR director general Balram Bhargava also said that even vaccine administration has to be watched carefully because immunity breakthrough might happen because of vaccine.
“The vaccines that are the front-runners are targeting the S-protein and also targeting the M-RNA but we find that they will continue to be effective. We have to be very careful to look for any immunity breakthrough that may happen by vaccination,” Bhargava said.
The government conducted a two-day dry run for Covid-19 vaccination in four states Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Punjab and Gujarat on December 28 and 29.
Bhargava said genetic mutations occur in the respiratory viruses but higher transmissibility is a point of concern.
