Ahmedabad: As the Gujarat government did not submit proposals for wildlife habitat development in time, the Asiatic lions’ last abode ended up among the states getting the least amount of funds from the Centre.
Gujarat is home not only to the lion but also to diverse wildlife populations including wild ass, sloth bear, and blackbuck.
The data tabled in the parliament suggests that Gujarat received a meagre allocation of Rs 1.24 crore from the Union government for developing wildlife habitats in 2020-21, down 94% against Rs 22.32 crore in 2018-19.
