Hansika Motwani has been in the industry for over a decade, winning hearts with her performance in a variety of roles. Though she didn’t have a release in the past two years, thanks to the pandemic, the actress has as many as seven projects in the pipeline, in both Tamil and Telugu. In an interview with us, Hansika talks about why her 50th film, Maha, has been delayed, how she chooses her characters, why playing cutesy roles isn’t problematic, and more. Excerpts:

You’ve been in the industry since 2010. But it’s only in the past few years that we have seen you take up roles that focus on your character. What prompted the shift?

I’ve been in the industry for a long time and I do like being part of strong films and doing strong characters. But I’ve not consciously shifted to doing a particular kind of film. With time and experience, you mature and those kinds of characters come to you. Also, I am very experimental and love to do different kinds of scripts. I want to have more variety in my work. Hence, I put in that extra effort to choose scripts that I enjoy doing, and at the same time, my audience, too, gets a variety of movies to watch. I won’t say it's a major shift, but I enjoy doing something I haven’t done before. And yes, I am changing with time, too.

So, do you think directors want to show you in a new light today?
