Earlier, the police had registered open enquiries based on the allegations, and transferred them to the CBI following the Supreme Court's (SC) direction. Singh was facing eight different allegations in Maharashtra and it was alleged he had misused his position and was involved in corruption and extortion, and had ill-treated junior officers. All these allegations turned into police investigations last year subsequent to Singh's corruption charges against then state home minister Anil Deshmukh.
