As city nears 100% vax feat, BMC to reduce centres, go for camps, vans

With Mumbai nearing the finish line of Covid-19 vaccination, the civic body has started planning ways to scale down the number of immunisation centres. The city has 440 vaccination centres of which 272 belong to the municipal corporation.

Mumbai: As per the preliminary discussions, centres at the community level may be the first ones to be dismantled. The community centres were started in each of the 227 wards under corporators last April to cater to the locals. Most are recording scanty footfall now and yet need a minimum count of manpower to keep them functional. They were set up following complaints that people from adjoining corporations were crowding the city’s vaccination centres and depriving local population of shots.
