Mumbai: Covid-19 cases in Maharashtra registered a worrying 48% increase in the past fortnight as compared to the earlier one. Maharashtra added 2.5 lakh new cases between August 28 and September 10, as against 1.7 lakh cases between August 14 and 27.
The easing of inter-city travel restrictions and failure of people to use face masks, said health officials, has led to the sudden rise. The Covid-19 outbreak has moved from metro cities to two-tier ones and is moving into the hinterland, they added. “There seems to be little in terms of novel public health intervention that we can do right now,” said a senior government official.
