New Delhi: The big takeaway from Wednesday’s NSA-level dialogue on Afghanistan is a common understanding of the threats that emanate from the Taliban takeover of the country. The next step will be to evolve a coordinated approach to dealing with these threats.
The presence of top security officials of eight regional countries in New Delhi itself indicates the level of concern about the potential security nightmare that could result with the inevitable spillover of terrorism and radical extremism. Officials were quick to point out that the security track is distinct from the diplomatic/political track. However, the reality of the Taliban takeover was not contested despite the fact that no representative of the radical outfit was present at the talks.
