Sidhu, Kanhaiya, Jignesh … Party In Search Of A Leader

The entry of Kanhaiya Kumar and Jignesh Mevani into Congress and the exit of Navjot Singh Sidhu as the Congress chief in Punjab happened simultaneously. The former should cheer the party. As far as Sidhu is concerned, he is singly responsible for the chaos in Punjab Congress over the last weeks.

But Sidhu is not about Sidhu. It is about how Congress is taking decisions. In fact, both the above decisions underscore that decisions in India’s Grand Old Party today are ad hoc and whimsical, and not a part of an overall plan for how to move forward.

Gandhi's siblings rolled the dice wrong

In Punjab it was Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Vadra who decided that Sidhu as party president would be able to curb the Captain’s free functioning style. It seems they were advised (by Prashant Kishor?) to first establish their authority before they could move on to cleaning up the Congress stables.

Sidhu, impatient for the ultimate prize he must have been promised for him to undertake the exercise, went out of his way to humiliate Amarinder Singh. So Amarinder is out. And Sidhu is also out, though he was appointed with great fanfare.
