We give you tips on making your tot’s big move a breeze.
Most children would have already made the change up from their snug infant crib to a larger, ‘big kid’ bed by the time they hit the toddler phase. Saying goodbye to your kid’s cot can be a big milestone for both you and your child, and there could be several reasons for the timely upgrade. For some kids, they move out of their crib because they simply want more real estate for snoozing, along with the labels that small beds come with. To them, small beds are for babies – quite literal in this sense – and having their own bed is an indisputable first step to growing up.
Many parents also start the process of moving their kid from family bed or crib to toddler bed when they see that their toddler has obviously outgrown their sleeping quarters. Whether it is witnessing them climbing out like escaped chimpanzees plotting a crib jailbreak, or learning the hard way by falling from the family bed, these are clear signs that it’s time for a change. New developments in the family brood may also spark a transition, where toddlers are ‘forced out’ of their cribs when a new baby arrives. Whether they want to or not, these kids need to adjust to the toddler bed to make room for their baby sister or brother.
