Geese are great. Not only are they delicious roasted, their fat makes chips even scrummier. The term for a flock of them is brilliant – a ‘gaggle’, for all you avian fact fans. They even have a delicious brand of vodka named after them. Three cheers for geese! Well, maybe not for the one in House House’s breakout indie. It’s an absolute menace.
Untitled Goose Game’s waterfowl star is a proper villain. Its entire reason for being is to gently terrorise the residents of a sleepy English village. Every single task this puzzler sets you involves thoroughly messing with folks’ shizzle. And you know what? We couldn’t be happier. Turns out, being a feathery agent of chaos makes for a bloody good time.
It may have started out as a joke – the initial premise was inspired by a stock photo of a goose that a member of House House circulated around the studio – but the final game is an utterly daft delight. Combining elements of platforming, puzzling and even stealth, it’s one of the most wholly original titles on Xbox One.
