Rumour Has It - Grand Theft Auto VI
With GTA V approaching its tenth anniversary and having just been ported to PS5 (read our verdict on p76), the big question is: what’s next? A recent announcement from Rockstar says “active development for the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series is well under way.” Of course, we have been anticipating a new GTA for a long time, but the statement suggests the many years of silence may come to an end sooner rather than later.

As with any expected landmark release, there have been many rumours about GTA VI, from its location to its time period, protagonists, and more. A lot of the whispers are probably less trustworthy than a GTA mission-giver, but there’s always a little bit of truth to the chatter. We’ve assembled a crew of the best to wade through the forgeries and fakes, and give their opinions on what they’d love to see from the next numbered game in the series – Grand Theft Auto VI.

TONE POLICE

Could GTA VI be when the series finally grows up?

Despite Rockstar’s Dan Houser claiming Grand Theft Auto isn’t about violence but freedom during an interview to celebrate the third game’s 20th anniversary, you can’t really ignore the fact that busting taboos and all semblance of good taste has been a mainstay of the series since the original top-down classic let you mow down processions of Hare Krishna devotees, while Trevor was made to facilitate players’ worst impulses.
