The Story of Thondaradippodi Aazhvaar
LAKSHMI DEVNATH
AN ORDEAL WITH A PURPOSE

Good morning to you.”

Poorva woke up at this chirp and saw the mother bird looking as bright as sunshine. Irritated at being disturbed, she asked crossly, “Did you have to wake me up so early?”

The bird winked. “The early bird catches the worm. I shall soon return with a really juicy collection. Join me for lunch.”

“Worms, worms, worms – is that all you can think of?” snapped Poorva. Almost at once, she felt remorseful. “I’m sorry. Didn’t mean to snap, though you could have let me sleep.”

“Have you come here to sleep or to see Vipranarayana Aazhvaar of Srirangam?” countered the bird.

Poorva kicked herself, and wondered aloud, “After so many experiences, how could I not have known that this must be the beginning of another adventure with yet another Aazhvaar. And how strange that I’m still at Srirangam! After that crazy journey, I thought I would be millions of miles away.”

“You moved in time, Poorva, not in space,” the bird clarified, and then took off.

Poorva slid down the tree to see Devadevi picking flowers in the garden. She noticed Vipranarayana walk out of his cottage and approach Devadevi. The two stood close and he seemed to really enjoy her company.

On the way back, she had an uncanny feeling that a lot of time had gone by, though she could not figure out how long she had been away.
