How do we respond to praise or appreciation?
When we receive praise or compliments or positive feedback, there is a feeling of increased self-esteem, pride or pleasure. These are very common reactions.
How do we respond to praise or appreciation? Some become responsible; some become arrogant...
Let me illustrate with an example. Two friends were the toppers in their 12 standard exams. They celebrated their happiness with family and friends. Both were very proud about themselves. One friend remained humble, but the other friend was unaware about the arrogance that he had developed over a period of time. It was now time for them to move on to college. They both passed out from college with flying colours and started their career in the same company.
The friend with humility grabbed opportunities and moved up the success ladder. His accomplishments were because he viewed his failures as a blessing in disguise, turned them into opportunities, enjoyed hard work, increased his knowledge and skill sets, had taken up more responsibilities, and was accountable for his work. He had the ability to empower others by translating vision into reality and remained grounded despite all his accomplishments. His pride, which he paired with his humility, helped him in holding himself up to high standards.
