WHEN I started fishing, in finger flipped it open at the the 1980s, my buddies all precise moment of casting, and wanted a blue Mitchell Match a locking device fitted on the 440A reel.
We considered these to be open when the reel was not in the ultimate reel for fishing, one use. that would be sure to improve our catch results no end if we had one!
Some were fortunate enough to be handed down these awesome reels from dads or uncles, but for the rest of us it was a case of having to use the standard, graphite-bodied Shakespeare reels of the time, which were perfectly adequate but, sadly, definitely not a Mitchell Match.
Most anglers presume that the legendary auto-bale Mitchell heralded from the 1970s, but the clever invention actually dates back to the 1950s.
