Former mtb’er Elaine Burroughs is gunning for a second-cat licence
Elaine Burroughs has just turned 50 and is treating the step up in age category as a fresh challenge to find out what she can achieve. A former mountain bike racer with proven competitive hunger and technical ability, the Brighton Mitre rider is seeking advice from CW’s Masters coach Tom Daly on how to revamp her training to gain her cat-two licence.
CW: How did you first get involved in bike racing?
In my mid-30s, someone got me into mountain bike racing — I ended up getting sponsored with a bike and travel money. I did road riding for fitness training. When we moved [to Hove, East Sussex] six years ago, from Berkshire, I didn’t have the same access to trails, so did more road riding.
