Cav’s lead-out chief lusts after Spinaci bars and hoards his team bikes
How do you rate your last race?
Six out of 10 — it was my first race back after a long break. I had endoscopic surgery on my sinuses after Milan-San Remo — it’s getting better and I guess this is the first time I felt good. It was like a head cold that persisted night and day.
You, Bernie Eisel and Mark Cavendish all have contracts up. Is there a desire to keep the old HTC band together?
Not all of us are in a good spot. Bernie had an operation on his brain after his crash, Cav has had three big falls this year, I’ve been recovering from my operation so at the moment we’re just all focused on getting runs on the board. No one has mentioned it yet because we’re all on the back foot; we’ll wait until we’re doing high fives.
What’s been your highlight of the year so far?
