Unusually, Nige has to head north to find some fishable water.
With work being so busy at the moment, I hadn’t had a chance to finish off my bit of the filming for the new Avid DVD, which is due for release later this year. So, with the dates booked in the diary, I had to go even though the weather had been really cold over the last few weeks. My first stop was Avid Carp headquarters to finish off a voice-over piece for the DVD, then it was a few phone calls to find a lake free from ice! The problem was that the previous night the temperature had dropped well below zero, but after ringing around a few of my contacts, I found some wobbly water.
Usually in the winter I head south to fish, as it can be that bit warmer, but this session I found myself heading north up the M6 to one of Ed Matthews’ lakes, Sutton. Having fished the lake twice before, I knew a little about it, but not much about the winter fishing or which areas to target. I was met in the car park by my old mate Jason ‘Gok’ Donaldson.

Around the venues If I told you in Staffordshire there is a fishery with pools within which the average carp is currently over 30lb, you’d be interested, wouldn’t you? What if I told you it’s not a syndicate or a club venue, but is available for all to fish on a day-ticket basis? Still interested?
