CELTIC returned to the top of the Scottish Premiership in emphatic style with a win over Ross County which Neil Lennon summed up as the most complete performance he has seen from his team. Lazio now lie in wait and while the Hoops boss is very much keeping his feet on the ground, he nonetheless believes Celtic can put in another impressive performance to overcome the Italian side.
Sitting second place in the Premiership for nearly two weeks is an unusual scenario for the current Hoops team, but the period of reflection yielded the kind of response expected from Neil Lennon’s players.
Ross County were Celtic’s first opponents after the international break, and the Staggies were consumed by a Celtic side hungry for a win after the two previous results in the league.
As the referee blew for full-time on Saturday the scoreline read 6-0 and Celtic returned to the top of the table were they remained after Rangers were held to a 1-1 draw away to Hearts the following day.
The barrow load of goals made for a thoroughly entertaining afternoon for the fans inside Celtic Park, but the most pleasing outcome for Neil Lennon was the manner in which his players went about their business.
“For me, the highlight of the win was the performance, regardless of what happened in the other games at the weekend,” said Neil Lennon. “From start to finish it was the best complete performance, certainly in my time here in my second spell. To score six is no mean feat and it could have been more. It was really controlled, quick and exciting football.
“I thought we played better in the first half but we scored the deluge of goals in the second half. Some of the football in the first half was breathtaking, and that was against Ross County who had come off the back of four games unbeaten, so it shows the measure of the performance.
