Coming from behind to defeat an Italian team with a late winner at Paradise in European competition is the stuff dreams are made of, and it’s the reason why Fraser Forster wanted to return to Celtic.
Neil Lennon’s side gave Celtic fans another European night to remember as they defeated Lazio 2-1 at Celtic Park to remain top of their Europa League group.
The game had all the trappings of a classic, with Lazio capitalising on a rare attack to take the lead just before half-time. It took an excellent finish from Manuel Lazzari to beat Forster and the Hoops stopper admitted there was little he could have done to deny the Italian internationalist from close range.
“It was hard,” said Forster. “It was one of those where it goes over my shoulder, which is probably the hardest place for a keeper. I know everyone will be critical that it went in the near post. If you cover the near post they’ll go for the far post and vice versa.
“You just need to try your best but it was a good finish, to be fair to him. I thought he was going to whack it low but he went over my shoulder and it’s hard to get your arm up quick enough.”
