As a bit of an old timer who has witnessed cricket when it really was a gentleman’s game and as one who has watched with dismay the growing player misbehavior through the years I have always marveled at MS Dhoni. It is not just his remarkable qualities as a cricketer that has held my attention – as batsman, keeper and captain - but even more than that it has been his controlled emotions on the field of play. Whereas most cricketers today go over the top in their behavior and indulge in unseemly or even obscene gestures that should have no place in the game Dhoni is a throwback to the good old days when players displayed a lot of decorum at all times whether on reaching a landmark or when an opposition batsman was dismissed or when an umpire’s decision went against him or the team.
