The Indian Premier League (IPL) will be in its eleventh edition this year. While teams like Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Mumbai Indians (MI) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have won the title multiple times, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) – despite being led by the Indian captain Virat Kohli – have failed to win the tournament even once. What’s worse is the fact that they have been unable to reach the knockout stages in half of the seasons. The below par performances of Kohli’s men begs the question - why has the skipper who has been leading the Men in Blue so successfully for over three years now, has not been able to mirror the same for his franchise. TOO MANY COOKS SPOIL THE RECIPE
Chris Gayle, AB de Villiers, Shane Watson, Mitchell Starc - all match winners in their own right - have been part of the RCB setup while Kohli has been at the helm of affairs. While each of them want to win games for the team, their ideas of how to do that might be different. This was one of the factors behind the failures of the Jayasuriya-Sachin-Ponting combination at MI during the initial years.
