Everton Under 23s consolidated their place at the top of Premier League 2 with a convincing 4-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at Goodison Park on Monday night.
After an unusually flat first-half display, the young Blues came to life after the break and goals from Ademola Lookman, Bassala Sambou, Kieran Dowell and Dominic Calvert-Lewin were enough to cancel out Kazaiah Sterling’s single strike for the visitors.
Everton are now just one victory away from winning the title, although defender Antonee Robinson admitted that the opening 45 minutes against Spurs just wasn’t up their usual standards.
“We didn’t start as fast as we normally do,” he said. “We let them play a bit, we didn’t press enough and when we got the ball we couldn’t hold on to it. We normally keep the ball well but it just wasn’t happening in the first half.
