Tin fish attract collectors, too
Visual attractors that attach to trap pans are known as tin fish, and the earliest published description I can find is for the Sure-Ketch in a 1907 Funsten Bros. & Co. catalog:
The “Sure-Ketch” Water Set is a clever invention to attract coon, mink and other animals who frequent the edge of the streams for food. It is a perfect fish in appearance which fits on the pan of the trap. It is made of bright, polished, best quality tin that will shine or glitter through the water … the invention of an old professional Arkansas trapper.
