English professional golf is in a particularly healthy position at the moment, and I think the amateur coaching set-up deserves huge credit for the current success
Some people have said we could be coming into the golden era of English golf. It does seem like it comes in waves, with the ‘new generation’, if you like, coming ten or 15 years after the likes of Westwood, Poulter, Rose and Casey came on the scene. We saw in the Ryder Cup last year that there was a bit of a changing of the guard, with people like myself, Andy Sullivan, Danny Willett and Matt Fitzpatrick making the side. But that would have happened beforehand with those ‘older’ guys replacing Faldo and so on. It does seem to be a bit of a cyclical process. However, nowadays there are a lot of good players coming through at a similar time.
