It was a couple of guys you may have heard of – Leonardo Da Vinci and Michelangelo – that inspired Jonathan Bartlett in his efforts at becoming what he calls a “realistic painter.”

“I’ve always been in awe of how detailed their work was, especially considering they worked in the 15th century,” says Bartlett, who when not working on his art, is an elementary art teacher at P.S. 329 in Coney Island, N.Y.

He also gives a nod to LeRoy Neiman.
