Can Djokovic Fly High Without Becker?

Novak Djokovic has announced his split-up with Boris Becker. Becker has been coaching Djokovic for the past three years. It was one of the most successful player-coach partnerships in tennis history. During this period, Djokovic won six grand slams and was the runners-up in three grand slams. Djokovic made the announcement on Facebook. This is his exact statement:

“After three very successful years, Boris Becker and I have jointly decided to end our cooperation. The goals we set when we started working together have been completely fulfilled, and I want to thank him for the cooperation, teamwork, dedication and commitment. On the other hand, my professional plans are now directed primarily to maintain a good level of play, and also to make a good schedule and new goals for the next season. In this regard I will make all future decisions.”

Becker responded to the announcement with grace. “Thank U ! We had the time of our life”, wrote Becker on his Twitter timeline. The partnership ended on a happy note. In spite of the partnership’s overall success, Djokovic have had a lean run in the last six months. He failed to win the Wimbledon and US Open. He could not win the Olympic Gold either. Finally, he lost his number one ranking to Andy Murray. Perhaps the lean run of the last six months culminated in the break-up of the partnership.

Here is an overview of the achievements of the association between Djokovic and Becker, along with a quick look at the future of the Serbian ace.
