WHEN Nottinghamshire were promoted to the top-flight as division two runners-up in 2017, much was expected of Peter Moores’ men.
Sadly, though, for the Trent Bridge outfit, the gulf that exists between the two County Championship tiers proved a tough one to bridge and but for Lancashire’s one-point deduction for a slow over rate against Yorkshire, Notts’ top-flight status would have come to an end at the first attempt.
But if there’s one man you need to save you from a crisis then it’s Moores.
The former England head coach has acted swiftly to halt the slide, recruiting a raft of English talent and suddenly Nottinghamshire are starting to believe again.
Moores will be delighted that two of his prospects have hit the ground running already. The two Bens, Slater and Duckett, have forged an immediate understanding, putting on a massive opening stand of 325 against Cambridge MCCU last week – Duckett smashing a whopping 216.
Duckett arrives full-time from Northants after a loan last season with a big point to prove after being sent home from 2017 Ashes tour in disgrace for throwing beer over James Anderson.
