ALL-ROUNDER Euan Woods feels England can become world beaters after enjoying an excellent start to their ICC Under-19 World Cup campaign in New Zealand.
Woods played a vital role as England all but confirmed their qualification for the quarterfinals yesterday with a comfortable seven-wicket victory over Bangladesh in Queenstown.
England bowled first and started well, reducing Bangladesh to 27-4 thanks to three wickets from Middlesex seamer Ethan Bamber.
Aminul Islam and Atif Hossain frustrated before Woods came in to take three crucial wickets and leave England chasing 176 to win – a victory target achieved comfortably thanks to an unbeaten 102 from Harry Brook and 48 not out from Woods.
“It’s always nice to contribute to your team in a win, which is the most important thing at the end of the day, it was nice to score some runs and take some wickets,” said Woods.
“We were always on top and then obviously their two batsmen batted well in the middle to get them back in the game,” Woods said. “We bowled well as a group and tried to put them under pressure and build dots, they batted well for that little period of time so there’s not much more we can do really.”
