“I’ve been very pleased so far,” Mara said as he spoke about Judge. “The things that are noticeable to me are the amount of teaching that goes on the field. It’s like nonstop. I think the intensity of practice, the communication that he has with the players has been impressive.”
Mara was a young man when the Giants hit rock bottom back in the ‘70s. But he remembers the days when an airplane flew over Giants Stadium carrying a sign that read “15 YEARS OF LOUSY FOOTBALL WE’VE HAD ENOUGH” and he surely remembers the wicked chants that exploded from the seats during those losing seasons.
He is the oldest son of Wellington, which means he takes losing as hard as Giants fans, maybe even harder.
Mara knows full well what a great coaching staff looks like. The Mara family had Bill Parcells and Tom Coughlin, and between the two of them, they put four Lombardi Trophies in the case that now resides inside 1925 Giants Drive.
