Judge-ing by 2020, the future is bright

They teased us. Boy did the Giants tease us. They didn’t win a football game until mid-October, lost a few games they should have won, then rifled off four consecutive wins to leave us contemplating a division title and corresponding playoff berth.

That brought us to the second week of December with hopes of adding another stocking stuffer, a win over Arizona and precious steps closer to a playoff berth.

Then it all fell apart.

The Giants, of course, lost big to the Cardinals, at least somewhat negating Big Blue’s stunningly dominant win over Seattle a week earlier.

Yet the Giants’ brutal loss to an average Arizona team was only the latest eye-opening reminder that the best part of pandemic-plagued 2020 is that it’s almost over.

You wanted to think that the Giants were a playoff team, and in this zany COVID-marred season, they surely still had playoff possibilities heading into Week 15 against the Cleveland Browns.

But the Giants’ flaws have been exposed and exploited, their season a mix of dread and promise, of stalls and starts and streaks.

Mostly streaks.
