Long time coming

Since I was bestowed the honor of becoming the editor of this publication, the Giants have played some of the worst football in their entire history. I lost my father in the fall of 2017, the year I became the senior editor, and while he may be reading this paper from the heavens above, he was not here on earth to see my stamp on The Giant Insider. That stamp included bringing aboard a whirlwind from Staten Island who breaks down film with the best of them (Chris Bisignano) as well as a stable of writers who, while they had the unenviable task of writing about losses and losing football almost every week, nevertheless delivered the goods during The Wilderness Years 2.0. Every single writer came through (Gleason, Addvensky, Fennelly, Firko, Ragazzo, and now Gidley), no matter how depressing this era of Giants football was.

In fact, since I started writing FOR this newspaper back in 2013, outside of the fluke that was 2016, which ended with the oh so embarrassing boat trip photo, the Giants have played some of the worst football since the 1970s.

First, there was Ben McAdoo, who was Ray Handley dressed in Jim Fassel’s clothing. While he experienced success in ’16 and had the overused title of “quarterback whisperer”, his true colors came through the following season, a season that saw the Feathered Helmet Unit experience a parade up Broad Street in the City of Brotherly Love. McAdoo mercifully and thankfully lost his keycard access.
