Greco's Giant Take
Three letters that come to mind when we think about the 2017 New York Football Giants season are “SMH” (SHAKE MY HEAD for you non-millennials out there!). The season in which they were projected to make it to the Super Bowl has been filled with injuries (the Giants have 18 players on injured reserve), bad attitudes and of course, the firings of both the general manager and the head coach. The Giants had not fired a head coach during the season since 1976 when they fired Bill Arnsparger, a season in which they finished 3-11. There are questions to be asked all around the Giants organization. Most cannot be answered now, but we can surely delve into at least a few of them.
We are weeks (perhaps days…who knows really?) away from finding out who the New York Football Giants are going to name as their new general manager. The fact that they brought in former general manager Ernie Accorsi (1998-2007) to help find a replacement does bring some relief, seeing what he has done for the Giants. The former general manager of the Carolina Panthers, Dave Gettleman was interviewed. Accorsi and Gettleman are good friends, so Accorsi knows him inside and out. Gettleman is also familiar with the Mara family after working for the Giants from 1998-2012. After his first year with Big Blue, he became pro personnel director.
After a GM is signed, the tedious task of finding a new head coach begins. Once that is complete, the pressure is on from the NFL Draft through September when the 2018 season begins.
