1992/93
SECOND ROUND, FIRST LEG 21.09.92 WHITE HART LANE
SPURS 3 (Sheringham, Watson, Durie)
BRENTFORD 1 (Blissett)
The first meeting between the sides for over 40 years took place in N17 after we were paired with the Bees in the second round of what was then the Coca Cola Cup. Brentford had enjoyed a west London derby victory over Fulham in round one, winning both games 2-0.
And it was quite the reunion at the Lane as we welcomed back Bees manager Phil Holder and his players Chris Hughton, Brian Statham and Billy Manuel – all of whom had started their careers with us. Holder had ended Brentford’s 13-year stay in the old Third Division by winning promotion to what was the newly-formed First Division, following the formation of the Premier League in 1992/93.
Both Hughton and Statham started in the Bees’ defence at the Lane but our hospitality ended once the whistle blew as we ran out 3-1 winners with goals from Teddy Sheringham, Kevin Watson on his debut and Gordon Durie. Gary Blissettnetted in the second half for the visitors.
SECOND ROUND, SECOND LEG 07.10.92 GRIFFIN PARK
BRENTFORD 2 (Blissett, Millen)
SPURS 4 (Anderton, Sheringham 2, Turner)
We wasted no time in putting the tie to bed in the return at Griffin Park, racing into a 2-0 goal inside the opening seven minutes.
