No one was surprised when Apple announced the new 2021 iMacs, powered by the new Apple Silicon M1 system-on-a-chip processor. The company is committed to moving its entire range of Macs from Intel chips to Apple Silicon over the next two years. But the Spring keynote also gave us a new iPad Pro which is also powered by an M1 processor, as well as AirTags, Apple’s long-expected tracking device. Now they’ve arrived, should we be excited? Is it worth upgrading? What do the new iMacs and iPad Pro mean to us? And what’s so good about the new M1 processor anyway? Let’s take a look.
“The M1 ushers in a whole new era for the Mac. When it comes to low-power silicon, M1 has the world’s fastest CPU core, the world’s fastest integrated graphics in a personal computer and the amazing machine learning performance of the Apple Neural Engine. With its unique combination of remarkable performance, powerful features, and incredible efficiency, M1 is by far the best chip we’ve ever created.” Johny Srouji, Apple’s senior vice president of Hardware Technologies.
iMac to the Future
It’s deja-vu all over again with Apple’s latest iMacs, but there’s much more to get excited about than just the new colours.
Apple’s new iMacs are here, and they’re awesome. Based around the new Apple Silicon M1 system-on-a-chip processor, they’re packed with exciting new features, and like early iMacs from the turn of the century, they’re available in a range of colours.
