GENIUS TIP

To change the menu bar icon for One Switch, access its Preferences, then click General and choose an icon from the menu labelled Menubar icon.

YOUR MAC HAS many options for customizing the way it looks and works. But accessing those settings isn’t always easy, or involves more hunting and clicking than it really should. In other cases, there’s no way to access them at all without either a third–party app or a visit to Terminal. Take hiding desktop icons as an example. Without a third–party app, you’d need to launch Terminal and type in a command. Then when you want to show them again, you’d need to type in another command. One Switch allows you to hide desktop icons with two clicks — one on the One Switch menu bar item and another on the toggle switch for hiding the icons.

One Switch also enables access to a bunch of other settings that would otherwise take several steps, such as turning on Dark Mode, connecting AirPods (or Beats X), and disabling sleep settings. The app is available as a free seven–day trial so you can download it and try to out for yourself. Here, we’ll show you how to get the best from it.
