It’s the year of shooters! Here are the upcoming games we’re most excited about, starting with what’s sure to be the most adrenaline-filled gears to date
When gears of War arrived on the scene almost 13 years ago it established itself as one of the most memorable action-packed shooters out there. not just because its campaign was immensely compelling, with excellent level design, over-the-top action setpieces and an engaging story, but also because its multiplayer offering kept us all entertained for years. So with gears 5 almost upon us, there’s a lot to get excited about.
Not much is known about the story outside the trailers shown so far, but with the cliffhanger from the last game it’s almost impossible not to be itching to find out what happens next, and it looks like we’re finally going to get some answers.
To recap (big spoilers coming up): at the end of Gears Of War 4, Outsider-turned-COG Kait euthanised her mother to save her from being absorbed by the Swarm (the evolved form of the Locust Horde). Before she died, though, Kait’s mother gave her a parting gift: a medallion that bore the Locust’s mark on its back. Kait was told that it belonged to her grandmother, who she has never met and is believed to be Myrrah, the queen of the Locust from the first three games. A lot of time has apparently passed between Gears 4 and Gears 5, and Kait, who is the main protagonist this time around, has been suffering from nightmares that she believes are connected to the medallion, prompting her to head out on a journey across the world of Sera in search of answers. Some of which will relate to the origins of the Locust Horde itself.
