Cobots - Los (Nuevos) Mejores Amigos
ON SEPTEMBER 13, 2017 IT WAS A HISTORICAL DAY AT THE VERDI THEATER OF PISA, IN ITALY. THAT NIGHT MADE HIS DEBUT A NOBEL DIRECTOR, IN FRONT OF THE FILARMÓNICA ORCHESTRA OF LUCCA. SINCE THE FIRST NOTES, THE PUBLIC WAS SURPRISED BY SEEING HOW THE ARMS MOVED WITHOUT ANY NERVOSISM AND WITH A HIGH LEVEL OF GESTO AND FLUIDITY IN ITS MOVEMENTS, AS WELL AS AN INCREDIBLE EXTENSION CORN, AS PUBLISHED BY THE DAILY ILLUSTRATION. The revelation of that concert in that Tuscan city was extraordinary not only for music, but also for industry and the economy of the planet, because that conductor was Yumi, a robot who managed to move the baton with the precision of a human. He even stole the stage from tenor Andrea Bocelli.

Andrea Colombini, original director of the Lucca Philharmonic, confesses that he doubted when the ABB company proposed the idea. Yumi can thread a needle, but in the case of the direction of an orchestra the challenge was the delicacy of the movements. However, Yumi conquered Colombini when he met him and even made him a coffee.

At the end of the musical piece, at the Teatro Verdi, the master of ceremonies addressed the audience a few words: "I want to request a final applause for the conductor, maestro Colombini, because he is fired as of today." Everyone laughed, but the concern about it was real.

At the gala in which Yumi was presented, the question was in the air: will this robot replace the conductor? A few days before there was a lot of controversy, orchestra conductors declared themselves against the "experiment". However, it was not a project to remove the human director, but simply wanted to bring people closer to a phenomenon increasingly present in robotics: cobots or collaborative robots.
