You can now easily add Amazon’s Alexa assistant to your PC. Alexa on Windows is a convenient way to command your devices and smart home if you’re already invested in it.
Alexa is available for Windows 10 PCs in the US, UK, Germany, and Japan, and will be coming to more locations in the coming months.
Microsoft’s own Cortana assistant hasn’t gained a whole lot of traction since its debut. The early promise of a voice assistant inside Windows has been left hanging because other devices don’t support it and, well, Cortana just isn’t as good as Alexa, Siri or Google Assistant at sorting stuff out.
Instead, Microsoft has opted to work more closely with long-time collaborator and fellow Washington State resident Amazon so their voice assistants can work together (and you can summon Alexa within Cortana).
Step-by-step Getting to know Alexa on Windows 10
1 Download and install the app
Open the Microsoft Store on your PC and search for the Alexa app – it’s called Alexa rather than Amazon Alexa. You might be prompted to gibe the password to your Microsoft account. Click on the blue install button to add it. If you ever want to remove it, go to Add or Remove Programs in Settings. Some new Windows 10 devices now have Alexa preinstalled.
2 Sign into your Amazon account
