We are an adventurous family of four, constantly looking for a new adventure far away from the mad rush of city life.
For years our family had joyful tours with our off-road caravan through Southern Africa. But in 2017 we lost our beloved home-away-from-home after an unfortunate accident in Namibia.
So starts the story of BorderX – because we could not nd a caravan that suited our speci c needs, we decided to develop and build our own.
By August 2018 we had our prototype, and it turned out better than we ever dreamed.
We have already had a few adventures with it, and countless enquiries from other campers who have wanted one.
So, we have decided to share our dream, and make this a permanent lifestyle for our family.
Our BorderX caravan turned into our ‘Prototype’, and that is the main drive for our 34-day Southern Africa adventure.
Why the name BorderX? Because this family doesn't want to know boundaries! Our long-term vision is to drive all the way to Egypt, and when we're done – why stop there?
DAY 1 – 4:
VRYBURG TO KGALAGADI
Our first night of the wonderful adventure happened to include a beautiful sunset at Kameelboom Lodge, 7km outside Vryburg.
The next morning we were up early to tackle the 405km drive to Kalahari Monate Lodge in Upington. The accommodation is good, and we experienced another lovely sunset.
After enjoying a big breakfast in Upington we drove on to the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park and arrived at around 11:00. We had a bit of a rest at camp, where the kids had a ball playing in the sand.
After lunch we drove in the park and viewed some of the game. Twice we came across tortoises crossing the road.
Later we had a braai, to use up the last of the meat, before crossing the border.
