Beyond the majesty of the Charminar and the aroma of biryani lies a Hyderabad guarding many secrets— even from its own people. Dig deep into the heart of the Deccan.
A story about the Begums of Hyderabad fascinates me. It is said that the secret recipes from the Begums’ kitchen were never taught to the daughters, only to the daughters-in-law—ensuring that the secrets remained within the family. The city of Hyderabad too is like a Begum with her secrets, waiting to be revealed. The city with its rich history and diverse culture has a lot to offer. Known around the world for its biryani, pearls and the iconic Charminar, the city is moving ahead in time. With the rapid urbanisation and IT boom, the old city of the Nizams is trying hard to balance its yesteryear charm with the sophistication of the modern world. Yet, between these posts it has been able to retain its days of glory in the monuments, which speak for themselves, and the Hyderabadi cuisine that retains its famed aroma and taste even centuries later. Hence, on my recent visit to the city, I made an attempt to experience things that one should not miss in Hyderabad. These experiences are less known and unique, and some may amaze the people of Hyderabad themselves.
