India Outbound|November - December 2016

All That Glitters Is Dubai

The trend of spending pompously on goods is a passé. People today look to buy themselves a ‘rich’ experience. And, what other destination turns as many heads as Dubai where the wealth shines as bright as the sun. Mostly a desert 30 years ago, Dubai today is leaving no stone unturned in impressing the world with its opulent superlatives – world’s biggest mall (Dubai Mall), tallest tower (Burj Khalifa), highest-rated hotels (Burj Al Arab), and the crowning jewel is its biggest man-made islands (Palm Jebel Ali, Palm Jumeirah and The World). That is not all. Their police force patrols in Ferrari, Lamborghini and the 2.5 million dollar Bugatti Veyron and their ATM machines dispense gold bars! While one is awestruck by these marvels, Dubai is already on the way to build a 50 million square feet, temperature-controlled ‘city’, and now the world’s biggest Ferris wheel, and soon a reproduction of Taj Mahal but four times the size of the original.

Thus, it goes without saying that Dubai is a haven for those looking for a luxury holiday. From lavish stays to sumptuous dining, exhilarating desert safari to extravagant cruises, Dubai is without a doubt synonymous with luxury.

Palatial stays

For a holistic lavish stay, choose from the ultra-chic resorts situated on the posh coasts of The Palm, world’s biggest artificial archipelago. The ‘One & Only The Palm’ is a shining oasis in this desert country. In the land of the soaring skyscrapers, these low-rise mansions in complete seclusion offer a tranquil moment near the pristine white sand beaches. The deep blue private pools give a view over the turquoise beach and over the shimmering skyline of the city. With its elegant Arabian style of living, this resort is a must-visit to experience peace and seclusion wrapped in abundance.

Debuting at COP29, can tourism lead march towards curbing carbon emissions?

Tourism will make its debut in global climate change negotiations in the next round of discussions, COP29, that opens in Baku later this month. So far, the discussions have spectacularly failed to produce any notable outcome, besides platitudes and numerous missed commitments. The global tourism industry has a golden opportunity to lead the way and show the world the true path to curbing carbon emissions. But the sector's own record in this aspect is hardly blemishless.
