How many times have you prayed for a magic potion that would disappear that one, stubborn, untimely zit? You’re not alone. It’s not life-threatening or even really serious, but acne is a condition that affects the lives of teens and adults alike. More than 20 per cent of acne cases globally cause permanent scarring and the burden of emotional baggage. Dr Gayathri Devi, cosmetic dermatologist at Derma Med Spa Skin Clinic, Chennai says, “Breakouts don’t necessarily end when your teenage years do. Adult acne is on the rise and is caused primarily by stress, genetics and the use of the wrong products. Fluctuating hormones around the menstrual cycle, pregnancy or menopause can also cause adult acne. In fact, many get acne for the first time as adults, and women are more prone to this than men.”
